How to Build Horse Stalls to Fit Your Needs
By D. Goossens

Horses come in many different sizes.  So, it seems logical that horse stalls should come in many different sizes, too, right?  You've got lots of choices when it comes to building materials for your stall.  I guess it can be pretty confusing unless you know what you have in mind when it comes to horse stalls.  Here's what I mean.

And, think about you.  When you go into the stall to groom your horse, it would be easier for you if you had room to move around, right?  So, this is another good reason to have a bigger sized stall.  Getting pinned between a horse and a stall wall is painful to say the least!

Then, thinking about the future again, what if you had a horse that was going to foal?  Maybe you dream of someday raising horses.  You can just feel the excitement on your farm or ranch when a baby horse is about to be born.  That would mean you'd need a stall that would easily accommodate birthing events.

What about if your horse might get sick?  Of course we always hope our animals will be healthy.  But let's face it, sometimes our animals do get sick.  This is something else to consider when planning for building stalls to fit your needs.

Also, what about the look of your horse stalls?  Do you want arches?  An open V on the stall door for your horse to hang it's head out of the stall?  Basically horse stalls come in 2 types namely support post or kit style and modular or portable style.  So, there is a lot to consider when deciding about your horse stall needs.

If you are going to have a stall in your barn just for Shetland ponies, then you could do quite well with small stalls.  But, what about the future?  Suppose in the future you could have full sized horses in those stalls?  You would have to replace them.  So, doesn't it make sense to have a larger stall in the first place?
